In New Jersey, as in 45 other states, charitable solicitation is a regulated activity. In 1994 the New Jersey legislature enacted the "Charitable Registration and Investigation Act" 1 ("CRI Act") to combat fraudulent charitable activities and to collect information on the fundraising activities of charities in New Jersey.
