APPENDIX J
CHILD CARE CENTER EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES
From Running it Right: A Legal Manual for Child Care Centers, Lawyers Alliance for New York, 1998.
Child care centers located in New York City are regulated by the New York City Department of Health, while child care centers located outside of New York City are regulated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYSOCFS). However, only day care centers with certain characteristics are regulated by the two departments. Therefore, child care centers must first determine if either of the departments' regulations apply to their organization, and if so, must comply with the applicable regulations. Failure to comply with the regulations may result in fines or in some cases the closing of a day care center.
